It is hard not to think of “Take on Me” by a-ha when listening to the new song “All Is Ours” by Dutch singer/songwriter Davina Michelle. Her power pop song is about “love for everyone who enriches your life,” you will not escape its positive energy, particularly if you watch the video.
Honestly, The Doozers is not the greatest name for a band. The Detroit quartet may believe they get away with it by simply making great music. Indeed, they succeeded with “Tidal Song,” a beautiful “invitation to sink gently to an ocean floor.” You will find more of this on their album Becoming an Entity, out on July 26.

The Brooklyn three-piece Hello Mary released “Three” as the second single of their upcoming album Emita Ox. The band member Helena Straight wrote the song as an exercise, but it became a tale of “Hello Mary’s perseverance, as they choose to move through life’s burdens instead of getting beaten down by them.”
The Canadian musician Art D’Ecco wrote “I Feel Alive” while on vacation in LA. Maybe that is what this city does to you: feeling full of energy, believing that anything is possible. “I wanted to tie my love for music to that feeling of being alive – when a song lights you on fire from the inside – it’s a powerful, undeniable emotion,” Art D’Ecco says.
The singer/songwriter Claude Fontaine goes the other way: on her upcoming album La Mer she flees to an imaginary island, somewhere between France and Brazil. The opening track, “Vaqueiro” – Portuguese for cowboy, kicks the album off in style with a hot samba beat.
