Happy New Year! Today’s newsletter reaches you with a slight delay because we were off for two days in Peekskill, NY, to celebrate New Year’s Eve. There is nothing grand to report from there: pouring rain quelled pretty much all outdoor revelry on the big evening. But that is fine with us. From all the ways we have spent the last day of the year over the decades, we remember the quieter ones as the better experiences.

There is not much we can announce at this point for glamglare, but we have some new features in the works, which we roll out in the following months.

We hope you had a great start into the new year. We will be back next Thursday with the full programming.

Song Pick of the Day

Sleeper's Bell, The Zew, Lou Z, Terra Twin, Caroline Romano, Tragic Sasha, and April Fools

Listen to/watch all seven songs on YouTube. Follow our daily updated playlists on YouTube and Spotify for the 50 latest Song Pick of the Day features, or subscribe here to receive them in your mailbox in real-time. Thank you for following us and sharing the excitement.

This time of the year, finding a new song every day becomes hard. But not impossible: The Chicago duo Sleeper’s Bell released their latest single, “Bored,” on December 17. Bingo! “You’re chasing experiences and feelings that you know exist, but you haven’t yet found,” says Caroline Romano about her new single “Born to Want More.” We hope that things will fall into place for her this year.

The Danish musician Lou Z made an intriguing cover of “All That She Wants,” a song played so often on the radio in the 90s that it still hurts. So we selected the title track of his new album, “Holes for the Hearts,” as our Song Pick of the Day. The Zew is the project of Austrian singer/songwriter Leonie Schlager, and as bird lovers, we agree wholeheartedly that “The Falcon is a Pretty Bird.”

Terra Twin makes irresistible indie rock. “Crooked” is from their upcoming EP, out on February 6. April Fools is a Brooklyn-based band around the sibling songwriters Olivia and Charlie Eguia. “OWS” is on their just-released debut EP.

What better start into the new year than with a song by Tragic Sasha? Her new single “Easy Life” keeps the holiday spirit up for a little longer.

Nine Photos New Year’s in Peekskill

On our way to Peekskill, the weather still cooperated, surprised us even with a nice sunset. And though we didn’t mind the rain outside during the MANIA ABBA tribute inside the Paramount Theatre, heading back to the motel in the pouring rain, was a bit challenging. Still, New York’s drought watch is not over!

To start the first day of the year with something very enjoyable, we took the train to Cold Spring, a bit futher up, where we walked to Little Stony Point to see birds nourish themselves on the bird feeders. We saw many of our favorite local birds like for example the red-bellied woodpecker.
