Strange Flesh, Dea Doyle, I.M the artist, Faith Richards, Arny Margret & Ásgeir, Sarah King, and O. Wake

Listen to/watch all seven songs on YouTube. Follow our daily updated playlists on YouTube and Spotify for the 50 latest Song Picks of the Day. Thank you for following us and sharing the excitement.

It is never too late for that life-changing encounter. In “One For Me,” London artist Dea Doyle tells the story of a “relationship that comes out of nowhere and ends up being the best thing that ever happened.” She also did a cute video for the song.

The Brooklyn Duo Strange Flesh makes eclectic synth-pop. After their hard-hitting single “Very,” their new song “Single / No Return” strikes a more melodic tone and is “inspired by the arid allure of deserts both hot and cold.”

Sarah King is a musician based in Vermont. “Longest Night” is a winterly breakup story about the pain and relief after having finally done the right thing after many years. Also, the song is not a Beatles cover, as you might think after the first bars.

Arny Margret and Ásgeir are two musicians from Iceland who we featured this year with different collaborations. That they do a holiday song together was not planned – but they work in the same studio. “I think we’re both quite introverted and shy people but for the last few months we’ve gotten to know each other a bit more,” says Arny. Then, they wrote and recorded “Part of Me” in two days.

Faith Richards has been around the world and is currently based in Paris. In her new steaming R&B track, she tells us what being a “Good Girl” means for her: “I’m just doing my own thing. I can be everything all at once. No label. No box. Just Faith Richards in her entirety.”

The London-via-Sweden musician I.M the artist, felt weighed down by the news and wrote a reflective song, “SOULED OUT,” to counter it. “I really believe art has purpose, perhaps most especially during times of tragedy, and so many of my projects are grounded in emotional catharsis,” she explains.

O. Wake, the project of Brooklyn-based musician Ofer Shouval, will release their debut full-length Unfamiliar State on January 19. “Lightning in a Bottle” is the b-side of a double-single, showing Ofer’s eclectic art-rock and deep-thinking lyricism.

Nine Photos from Festive Dishes

Throughout the year, we follow a nutritious, balanced, low-carb diet, which we interrupt during the holidays or when on vacation. Over the years, we came up with our own culinary traditions, like Salmon Risotto on Christmas Eve or Spaghetti Amatriciana for Christmas. Both dishes are not only delicious but easy to create and fun to cook with company. Shrimp Cocktails with a homemade dip are another staple when there’s a three-day (or more) weekend to be enjoyed! We also prepared Organic Iceberg Mussels with Chorizo and put a few charcuterie boards together. Please ask us about the recipes.
