W. H. Lung - How To Walk
Definitely still a synth-pop band England’s W. H. Lung, yet with a much lighter vibe if their brand new single “How To Walk” is any indication for the entire new oeuvre. The track is unusually optimistic, happy even. Don’t get me wrong, I’m maybe their biggest over seas fan, since 2016 already, so I’ve see the band evolve a bit yet without ever loosing their – may I use the term – Krautrock core. W. H. Lung is THE band for all who mourn the lack of mesmerizing and intelligent synth-pop/rock. And if you get the chance to see W. H. Lung live, do yourself a favor and get a ticket. Or better yet, invite your friends too because experiencing Joseph & Co. Live is something for the ages! Their show at Iceland Airwaves 2019 is still among my all time favorites!
So, what’s new with the band? They relocated to Sheffield to work for the first time with Ross Orton (MIA, Arctic Monkeys, Working Men’s Club), who was able to harness their energy and live show vibe beautifully.
Asked about working with a new producer, singer Joseph Evans says:
“Ross is the Sheffield Steve Albini. He’s the king of not overthinking it and trusting the process of the art of recording songs. He was always there to stop us fucking around with cerebral stuff and get it down.”
This sentiment is echoed by guitarist Tom Sharkett:
“He was the exact producer we needed without us even realising. His productions and mixes are bombastic, lively and in your face. He brought a real dose of magic to the songs we’d written.”
