NEW MUSIC: M1LDL1FE - Distraction (Video)
The colorful and atmospheric video to “Distraction” is the perfect visual enhancement to a gorgeous song. “Distraction”, by Singapore-based indie-pop quartet M1LDL1FE, is the first track on their recently released self-titled EP. What makes the video so compelling is the smart combination of band shots, Singapore nightlife and lots of other things (umbrellas!) and beings (aquarium and ocean fish!) in-between.
Frontman Paddy Ong details the track as follows:
“It’s a song about coming to terms with the various things in life that are ‘distractions’. Your work is a distraction from your side hustle or life outside the office. Sometimes – even though it feels wrong to admit it – you feel like time with your family or loved ones are distractions too. It’s a song for those times when you feel, ‘I don’t have time for this right now’, but it’s your lover’s birthday dinner and you feel terrible for having those thoughts.”
These are deep thoughts for such a pretty, hinting the 80s, pop song. Thankfully, Paddy Ong’s soulful and ultra-velvety vocals make it all sound way more easy and carefree than the lyrics might intend. Watch the video and then check out the entire M1LDL1FE EP, for which “Distraction” is really just the appetizer because the whole thing is equally awesome:
