Super Plage - +1 (ft. Virginie B, Meggie Lennon) [Premiere]
French-Canadian electro-pop artist Super Plage releases his new album Magie à minuit today, and we are excited to premiere “+1,” the record’s magnificent lead single. “But I always say, one’s company, two’s a crowd, and three is a party,” to quote Andy Warhol, and so, for the vibrant and instantly irresistible track, Jules Henry (Super Plage) enlisted the help of Virginie B and Meggie Lennon. La fête got bigger and even more sparkling when Super Plage also invited Mélanie Venditti, Laurence G Do (Le Couleur), and Laurence Camille to the album.
Thanks to an early album listening treat, I am happy to confirm that Magie à minuit makes indeed for a magical party backdrop: it’s easy to get lost by the Magic at Midnight! The fact that the record is kept almost entirely in French adds to the appeal; the words are mellow and melodic and keep you in a feel-good bubble or, more on point, in a blissful state of joy-de-vivre.
“+1” makes for the ideal album opener with its shiny, cascading synths and alluring play of male and female vocals. We asked Super Plage if he could tell us more about the song’s background, and Jules says:
“+1 is a collaboration with two close friends (Virginie B and Meggie Lennon), it’s the opening track that announces a party album, it says everything by saying (almost) nothing, it evokes the party, the night, the romanticism, simple lyrics to let people imagine their own evening, with a big bassline to make sure that this evening is completely crazy and dancing.”
