SONG PICK: Temples - Paraphernalia
Temples - Paraphernalia press shot by Connor Fields

Big names around the track threat to almost drowning its beauty but this would be a shame because the newest single by psych-rock quartet Temples is infectious – in the best of ways. “Paraphernalia” swoons and swirls in their 60s and psychedelic-infused signature style and will be a sure-fire hit. It is not even necessary to mention that Sean Ono Lennon has produced the song or that Dave Fridmann (Tame Impala, Flaming Lips, MGMT) has mixed it because “Paraphernalia”  is highly pleasing all on its own but the help of these two most certainly added to the allure.

How did this all come together? Organically? Following their own performance at the Desert Daze festival, Temples caught their labelmates’ The Claypool Lennon Delirium’s set and were afterward hanging out with band’s frontman Sean Ono Lennon, talking about music.

Lennon says about the encounter:

“I’d always been a fan of the band. Had seen them play some pretty great shows over the years. When I first heard the demo for ‘Paraphernalia’ I knew they had a great tune”.

Lennon produced the track and enlisted Fridmann to mix it. Temples’ lead singer and guitarist James Bagshaw wrote the song and explains:

“In an age of constant distraction, we all strive to find focus and a sense of calm. ’Paraphernalia’ questions the depth of ‘real’ connections in a digital world”.
