SONG PICK: New Pharaohs - Ya Habibi Yalla
Maya Marie aka New Pharaohs grew up in Lebanon and her new track “Ya Habibi Yalla” is about her experiences in Beirut, a city with a troubled history. But that doesn’t mean that you could not find beauty and joy there too and this song perfectly reflects this sentiment. Maya explains:
Ya Habibi Yalla’ means ‘come on baby’ in Arabic and is also the title of a very famous party song by The Gypsy Kings which has played every night in Beirut clubs since the 90s. It’s a nod to reminiscing the good old days on the shores of the troubled Levant.
