SONG PICK: Dex Wolfe - Highly Likely
For a while already, we had Dex Wolfe on our radar but life got in the way. By now, the Minnesota-based producer and songwriter has released his debut EP “Lightness”. Fortunately, it is never too late to talk about good music, and “Highly Likely” is just such a gorgeous track with its jazz and prog-rock influences, and idiosyncratic harmonies and chord progressions! When asked about the song, Wolfe reveals:
“I wrote “Highly Likely” during a year of recovery and healing. I was learning to be better to myself and how to articulate and understand my own traumas. As I did this work, I needed to take space from many friends and from much of my community. I felt the spectrum of gray areas between alleviation, escapism, and destruction. Altering our state of mind is an ambiguous journey. There is so much complexity that we don’t talk about when it comes to drug use. I intimately saw the opioid epidemic hit Minneapolis, and I saw how gray the space is between recreational and destructive, how it can be both and also slide back and forth.”
“Highly Likely” captures these different moods and feelings beautifully when it shifts between brighter and darker vibes and towards the end seems to almost spiral out of control entirely. The result is highly alluring. Listen to “Highly Likely”, our Song Pick of the Day:
