SONG PICK: Barley Passable - All I Have
Australian synth-pop duo Barley Passable seem to enjoy keeping a bit of a secret around their musical project and start with building some hype and following around them. But why ever not. Kai Ollmann (guitars and vocals) and Davy Brown (keyboards and vocals) are onto something if their first release “All I Have” is anything to go by. The track is almost painfully nostalgic with its 70s synths and 80s drum loops, yet the overall production keeps it fresh and contemporary. And its vibe is oh-so-lush and irresistible!
Barley Passable say about their single:
“All I Have, as our first release perfectly captures Barley Passable’s message and image. It is a darker track with a powerful reminder that one’s own mind is the strongest tool we have, and resonates with us a representation of an anxious mind. Just how the mind goes through periods of darkness and light, the song both lyrically and sonically forms a similar journey of cloudiness in the verse, to a feeling of openness and release in the chorus. All I Have’s message is portrayed by following a story that takes place in a single instance; the moment following a glance of a new love and the turmoil that comes with it in the mind of a hopeless romantic.”
