SOLAR EYES - Let’s Run Away
My first thought upon hearing “Let’s Run Away” was, “What from?” with the new year just having started. U.K. duo SOLAR EYES offers compelling reasons and ideas in their newest groovy single. “Let’s Run Away” takes influences from such seemingly unmixable genres as Spaghetti Western soundtrack and 70s Science Fiction movies. The combination sounds bizarre, but the result is utterly appealing! Maybe it is even more attractive to those of us who grew up with a steady diet of Western and Sci-Fi because the song taps heavily into nostalgia but without drowning in it. “Let’s Run Away” is exciting and as young as 2024 itself. Musicians Sebastian Maynard Francis and Glenn Smyth are behind the moniker SOLAR EYES and are about to release a full-length, self-titled debut album on February 16th. I fully get what frontman Glenn says about creating the track because out there you can get exactly that vibe:
‘Let’s Run Away’ was one of the last songs to be written on the album, it was written in Texas last March when we were out there playing south by. You can sort of hear it as well, there’s that Americana haze type sound. Spaghetti western vibe. I sort of had in my head – now this might sound a bit mad – Tracey Chapman ‘Fast Car’ – in essence. But with a brummie slant. A Bonnie and Clyde type thing.”
