Skateland - Sunset Cinema
Skateland is the moniker of Austin, TX-based singer, songwriter, and producer Dorian Williams Jr., and his latest beautiful single, "Sunset Cinema," comes with a compelling music video. The song features a laid-back, hazy vibe, supporting Dorian's lyrics when he sings, "I can see you in my dreams." Watching the video, the mood continues, albeit with some very real riding bikes on suburban (?) streets. Spontaneously, the video reminded me of one of my favorite videos from the 00s, "What's A Girl To Do," by Bat For Lashes. However, Skateland kept his video chill, fitting to its title.
"Sunset Cinema" is a song about saying goodbye, and Dorian explains:
"I wrestle a lot with the tension of letting go and moving on, and that can be for something as big as ending a relationship, or as simple as throwing away a beat up old t-shirt. There's a romanticism to that idea which can be great, but the downside is that you can sometimes stay in something for longer than you should because you're hyper aware that when it's over it'll be gone for good".
