Odd Beholder - Just Because I Regret It
The new song by Swiss musician Odd Beholder nods as much to fellow countrymen and electronic music innovators Yello as to mid-80s Depeche Mode. In other words, it is a delectable piece of synth-pop that also includes a pointy punchline: “Just because I regret it, it doesn’t mean I won’t do it again and again.”
Daniela Weinmann, the woman behind Odd Beholder gives us a hint about the track:
“The lyrics, though, are about regret, and how one’s problematic patterns of behavior can’t be so easily discarded. After the sad bridge (“You’re on a course / That you don’t wanna be on / Call it a curse”), the beat comes back almost a bit too joyfully stomping. Perhaps the person expressing themselves here is at a crossroads, trying to decide between revolution and therapy. Whether the song is a lustful, yet evil dance track or a reflective therapy anthem is now entirely up to the listener.”
