Noum - Born
Listening to "Born," I would have never guessed that it has such an emotional backstory. The track has such an uplifting, mellow flow that you can't help but love it. Noum aka Noémie Ducimetière the London-based singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer says about her new single:
“On my train rides to see my dad in the ICU unit each day I was developing the lyrics. I read it to him several days before he passed away and I made up the last line on the spot which made him react sweetly in his sleep, and so I kept the end this way. Among all of the wars, land grabs, racism and xenophobia in the world, I’m finding comfort in celebrating our most basic common attribute, being born. We can disagree about everything else but that we can’t! We were all once babies. That’s just the way it is. It’s nice and disarming and calming I think. I never set out to make such a track, it’s just the way it came out. "
Noémie says further about her song, and its intentions:
"When I listen to it I get a sense of consistency, beyond a single lifetime, beyond blood and skin colour, even beyond species, and I hope others will resonate with this. I can’t understand why anyone is having to remind anyone else that everything on this insanely precious earth is connected and in delicate equilibrium, and that our systemic habits have the power to tip the entire balance of the earth system. I can’t understand why anyone is having to convince anyone else that this matters... are we just so traumatised and desensitised? By nurturing a feeling of connectedness and belonging, I hope that we might feel more motivated to protect that place to which we belong.”
