NEW ALBUM: Various - Alternative Spirit [PIAS]

This is the perfect album for everyone who wants to get a great sonic overview of independent music of the last ~8 years. Some of the finest bands are on “Alternative Spirit”, the compilation album released on May 20th by PIAS. Some bands on “Alternative Spirit” provide their hit singles like in Black Keys‘ case with “Tighten Up” or Purple with “Wallflower”, others are a touch more obscure but all the same awesome like some personal favorites like Temples with “Sand Dance (Beyond The Wizard’s Sleeve Reanimation)” or Black Rebel Motorcycle Club with “Let The Day Begin”.

This is the perfect party mix as it starts out with the more popular side of indie rock with alt-j to My Morning Jacket. Then going a bit more psychedelic with Mogwai or moody with Editors to turn more electronic and EDM, culminating in The JuanMcClean “Happy House” (12 minutes and 26 seconds of sonic bliss) and D/R/U/G/S “The Source Of Light” to nicely chime out with The Shitz “How Long” and eventually Rina Mushonga “Bullet”.

There are so many occasions for which this album would be simply perfect! I for one will get another digital copy as a gift for my god child’s 15th birthday, someone who’s just starting out to explore music and who can discover fantastic new favorite bands with this wonderful, diverse compilation of bands who typify the Independent Spirit.
