The singer/songwriter Michelle Kash lives in LA now, but her new song takes her back to New York City, where she grew up. "Gravity" is a love song – released yesterday on Valentine's Day – albeit abstract, wrapped in an atmospheric, slow-burning pop song that captures the magic of the proverbial "New York Moment."

Michelle tells us the story behind the song:

I wrote the poem that Gravity is based on in NY. The original title was ‘Lou Reed/Gravity/W11th.’ It seemed that everyone I would fall in love with loved Lou Reed, and that if someone loved Lou Reed it just naturally wouldn’t work out. One day, while plagued by the emotional ups and downs of my love life, I was getting off an elevator in the West Village and crossed paths with Lou. It felt so surreal and bizarre and kind of a neon sign of some sort. It was a moment where I felt everything collide and all of my experiences collapse into one another, and I wrote this as soon as I got home.”
