Melanie Baker - Double Decker Death Machine

This morning, while listening to new releases, I also came across “Double Decker Death Machine,” the new single by Melanie Baker. I liked the track and listened to it some more, musing where I’d put the bold and empowering song, and the best I could think of was the sound of some of (the few) female rock heroes of the 70s and 80s. The more I am delighted, that one of them was in deed the inspiration for Melanie Baker’s piece – and is also mentioned in the lyrics, which I missed, somehow. Intrigued by “Double Decker Death Machine” I continued to check out the other singles of this Newcastle-based indie-artist and they are just as great! There’s an EP to look forward to called Burnout Baby, out due April 5th via Daemon T.V. Asked about “Double Decker Death Machine,” Melanie says:

“This is the last song I wrote for the EP and the one that inspired the overall EP concept. I hadn’t written anything in months and was feeling unmotivated and lost in my creative process until I was inspired by a Patti Smith interview. It’s meant to be a bit fun and silly but also the weight of the words are still meant to act as a reminder for me to keep going.”
