Madeline Kenney - Superficial Conversation [Video]
Oakland-based singer, songwriter, and producer Madeline Kenney released the first taste of her upcoming album, and I am very much looking forward to enjoying the entire collection of songs. “Superficial Conversation” has a beautifully bright and enchanting vibe yet with some darker undertones that keep the track grounded and real.
A search over glamglare showed that we had -indirectly- featured Madeline before, when she lent her gorgeous vocals to dream-pop band Trails and Wails’ “Happiness,” one of our #glamglarepicks of 2016. Sadly, we lost track of Madeline, but this luckily changed now. Madeline is gearing up to release her fully self-produced fourth full-length album A New Reality Mind, on July 28th via Carpark Records. “Superficial Conversation” is the first cut from the new 11-track album, and I started listening to her previous albums and fell in love with the 2020 Sucker’s Lunch, co-produced by Jenn Wasner (Flock of Dimes). This is an artist to watch and not lose sight of again.
Asked about the single, Madeline reveals:
“‘Superficial Conversation’ is my way of looking back at the ways I shrunk myself or ignored my own needs in favor of the needs and desires of others. While I wish I had acted differently, I want to be kind and forgiving to my past self and be able to grow and move forward with more power and love.”
