Laveda - Troy Creeps [Video]
When I saw New York indie-rockers Laveda last Wednesday at Arlene’s Grocery playing a show for the New Colossus Festival, they thoroughly impressed me with how far they came from the duo I saw at Much More’s in 2019 and the quartet that they are now. No doubt, already back then, you could tell that there was great songwriting, killer guitar chops, and beautiful vocals at play. But Ali Genevich (vocals, guitar) and Jake Brooks (guitar) have refined their style and are about to release their sophomore album, A Place You Grew Up In, due out April 14, 2023. One of the key singles of that album is “Troy Creeps,” which also got a mesmerizing band video. Asked about it, Ali says that the track embodies “a long night spent alone with your thoughts,” while Jack explains the song’s title:
“When I made this demo I had just moved to a small apartment in Troy, NY. You could always hear everyone’s conversations if they were outside on that street. People were screaming at each other about something while I was recording so the name stuck.”
Whether you get a chance to see Laveda live (they’re on tour!) or watch the video, comparisons with the English rock band Wolf Alice will come up, and I wish Laveda that much popularity and success – and then some!
