Josienne Clarke - Double Edged Sword [Video]
Singer, songwriter, and producer Josienne Clarke dropped the last single from her upcoming fourth solo album Parenthesis, I, due out May 10th via Corduroy Punk. While surprisingly short, “Double Edged Sword,” brings a lot of panache and joy in its only one minute and fifty-three seconds. Josienne’s vocals are just so beautiful and crystal clear that you want to get lost for longer than barely two minutes. Luckily, there’s the option of repeat listening, and besides, tomorrow, there will be an entire album, and it’ll be a treat!
Asked about “Double Edged Sword,” Josienne says:
“Sometimes your continued existence is enough, the bold move, an act of resistance. The more time I work in the music industry the more I believe success within it is a matter of endurance and resilience. Just to still be here, to create year on year whatever the external circumstances and isn’t the same true of life in general. I was going for the sound of The Stone Roses ‘Waterfall’ meets Taylor Swift’s ‘Anti-Hero,’ played by a folky singer-songwriter!”
The track comes with a video directed by Alec Bowman_Clarke, and he says about the song and its visuals:
“This video is the urban future. Josienne’s utilitarian outfit like if ABBA were in THX1138 amid the bright night city lights of Rotterdam after a show, we found a broken neon sign and went with it. I love the colours of the backgrounds, which I wanted to blur & haze, so much rich texture to find in all the usual places. A fun one to make.”
