Feral Family - This Side Of Me
I might just have discovered a new favorite band here with British post-punk trio Feral Family and their latest single, “This Side Of Me.” The singer’s (Jamie) vocals are slightly menacing but ultimately very much lonely-wolf-style and, all the same, highly fascinating. Perfection! In one of their bios, I read that Feral Family were inspired by Frank Herbert’s “Dune” saga. This statement immediately transported me a few decades back, when I devoured all six Dune volumes with a cassette tape of dark and beautiful songs such as “This Side Of Me,” as my personal soundtrack. Feral Family would have fit right in with Sisters of Mercy, The Cure, Killing Joke, Fields of the Nephilim, The Damned, and more. Here’s what Feral Family say about the lead single for their upcoming album Blush Response, out early next year:
“This Side Of Me” conveys an inner-conflict, of trying to maintain a positive facade while fighting personal demons. It is the story of someone channelling a past longing, whilst wrestling against altogether darker emotional forces. Attempting to navigate this turmoil, they eventually break down to leave their mark on someone else’s life.”
