Upon receiving “Chromatic Fantasy, and Feud” in my inbox, I was immediately intrigued by the title, listened to the song, and loved it! It is the new single by Brooklyn artist Ernest Rareberrg, which the press copy calls “a compelling exploration of past relationships, personal identity, and the intricate dance of human emotions.” The track starts out relatively chill, with a mesmerizing guitar line and Ernest’s beautiful vocals; however, halfway in, the song gets quite bombastic. Initially couldn’t pinpoint which vibe “Chromatic Fantasy, and Feud” reminded me of, but by sheer coincidence, I yesterday listened to an algorithm-generated 1998 playlist, and when Robbie Williams’ “Let Me Entertain You” came on, I could hear a similar excitement and catchiness. I get that this might be far-fetched, and the algorithm made a mistake anyway since Robbie’s song was already released in 1997, yet I stand by my statement: “Chromatic Fantasy, and Feud” is an exquisitely created, fantastic piece of pop!
