Dream Wife - Orbit [Video]

Dream Wife - Orbit [Video]

“Orbit,” the new single by  Dream Wife, is exactly what I was looking for without even knowing it, thanks to its infectious vibrancy and joy-de-vivre. If you’ve never heard of Dream Wife before and have only time for one song, then “Orbit” is a fantastic start to acquaint yourself with the London-based three-piece. While “Orbit” is less sociocritical than their usual work, it is still quintessentially Dream Wife showcasing vocalist Rakel Mjöll, guitarist Alice Go, and bassist Bella Podpadec at their finest. At glamglare, we’re big fans of Dream Wife since we’ve seen them performing live during Iceland Airwaves in 2016 and couldn’t be happier to know that they have more of their grandiose creativity and musicianship in them.

With “Orbit,” they released another track from their June 2nd, 2023 album Social Lubrication, produced by the band’s very own Alice Go. From that album, they already released the singles “Leech” and “Hot (Don’t Date A Musician),” which both see Dream Wife at their fiercest. So, “Orbit” almost makes for the classic third single, the dreamy one, only it isn’t a balmy ballad but a brilliant banger that makes you feel alive (and young again.) The video, directed by Sophie Webster, shows Rakel, Bella, and Alice orbiting around each other and bringing the mesmerizing allure of “Orbit” beautifully to life. Bravo!

Asked about the song, Rakel says:

“Lyrically, it was inspired by post-lockdown London coming back to life and sharing a space through friendship and community. And how each day you never know what’s in store for you or how a stranger can become someone close to you – for a day, a heartbeat, a phase, or a lifetime.”

Catch Dream Wife on tour because this is a band you want to experience live. My word. See you on September 15th at Brooklyn Made, New York. For now, listen to “Orbit,” our Song Pick of the Day, and get lost in the enthralling, kaleidoscopic video:
