Conchúr White - Rivers
The Vibe of “Rivers,” the new single by Northern Ireland singer/songwriter Conchúr White, is spectacular! There’s a bittersweet undertone that never weighs too heavy on the overall sweet, optimistic feel. “Rivers” is a song that I could listen to for hours, and I can’t wait to add more Chonchúr White songs to this one-song playlist when his upcoming album, Swirling Violets, drops on January 19, 2024, via Bella Union. Conchúr – pronounced Connor – says about the inspiration and creation of the song:
“Rivers was recorded in a cottage outside Pomeroy in Tyrone. I went away for a few days to demo tracks for the album, one of which was Rivers. I’d always intended to re-record it but never did as I came to like the idea of having something on the album that I’d made by myself; my recording of my vocals and acoustic guitar. I committed to all the effects and sounds pre-recording as I didn’t want to spend a lot of time mixing demos, so everything you hear on the song was as I heard it. I added a few harmonies and manipulated my vocal to try and emulate an uilleann pipe in the bridge section, but aside from that it’s basically a live recording. I’ve always liked the music of Nick Drake and Joni Mitchell, and it’s without doubt the most folk-inspired and folk-sounding song on the album.”
