colby! - Dead Giveaway

Upon learning that colby! grew up in Fort Worth, Texas, and got signed to SONY Nashville, one might instantly think Country! However, colby! is musically much closer to Billy Eilish, thanks to her sultry, ethereal vocals and the collaboration with her brother RJ Johnson. They co-wrote the songs together, and RJ Johnson produced them. Today, colby! released the brilliant five-track EP Dead Giveaway, and for me, the title song is the EP's stand-out track; hence I chose to feature that one. Asked about the EP, colby! says:

"I'm so excited—and honestly, a bit nervous—to finally share this EP. My brother, RJ, and I started making music just for ourselves in a makeshift studio at home, never really thinking anyone else would hear these songs. Music has always been something we do just for the love of it.”

She further explains:

"I wrote ‘Dead Giveaway’ about those moments in a relationship, whether romantic or platonic, when you realize there’s no real depth there. You’re putting in the effort to keep things going, but it’s clear the other person isn’t meeting you halfway, and they’re unlikely to change. There’s nothing left to save, and it’s time to accept that you need to go your separate ways."
