PHOTOS: Lena Fayre plays her elegant pop at The Delancey (CMJ)

L.A. artist Lena Fayre has been around a few years and it is entirely my fault that I haven’t heard about her until last CMJ, where she fortunately played a few showcases, among them the Atypical Sounds/Audiofemme takeover at The Delancey. See photos of her show below and listen to[…]

PHOTOS: DF3 brought joyful synth pop to Leftfield (CMJ)

DF3, a synth pop trio from California via Mexico and Brooklyn, were scheduled to play two shows for CMJ 2015, both at equally intimate dance clubs on the Lower East Side. First up was their show at Leftfield, which I decided to catch. Two days later, a show at Fat[…]

Song Pick of the Day: Rare Monk – California

Casually letting SoundCloud run, I came across a one year old track by Portland’s (Oregon) Rare Monk and checked to see if there’s by any chance a newer, equally cool song and holy cow – there’s the yesterday released California! What. A. Song. The chorus goes California will burn and this already[…]

PHOTOS: Gold Child charms CMJ

We saw Gold Child, the band of singer/songwriter Emily Fehler, two times at CMJ: one was in the enchanted setting of the rooftop on The Delancey, which mixed tropical plants with Northeastern fall decoration. There she played an acoustic set, together with drummer Jake Beal and guitarist David Von Bader,[…]

Song Pick of the Day: Dahlia Sleeps – Breathe

Start the week with this beautiful Song Pick of the Day Breathe by London duo Dahlia Sleeps. With its restraint, emotional vocals and build up it reminds me on Banks’ work. I didn’t find anything else by them yet, but will keep my eyes open.

PHOTOS: Lara Snow live in New York City

We’ve already posted a bunch about Lara Snow, a new electro pop artist from Tel Aviv who visited New York for CMJ. She and her collaborator and drummer Jonathan Harpak convinced us at two shows a few weeks ago with energetic and catchy songs and an overall great performance. Listen[…]

Song Pick of the Day: Donna Missal – Keep Lying

Happy Sunday with this Song Pick of the Day by NY singer/songwriter Donna Missal. It’s an emotional, soulful track with a big voice, although I don’t think this Keep Lying thing is a good idea long term in a relationship.

PHOTOS: Jennylee introduces herself at Baby’s All Right

Seeing an artist at her first show is a rare exciting event, so I’m happy that, after Mothica earlier this year, we had a second opportunity with Jennylee, the solo project of Warpaint bassist Jenny Lee Lindberg. And while she probably has hundreds of shows all over the world under[…]

Song Pick of the Day: Maszer – Fata Mirage

Maszer is a trio from Seattle, in parts via Tel Aviv. I love the guitar line on their first single Fata Mirage, our Song Pick of the Day. They are readying an EP for release in December.
