Cat Clyde - Papa Took My Totems [Video]
Canadian indie-folk singer/songwriter Cat Clyde offers with the vibrant “Papa Took My Totems” another brilliant cut from her upcoming album. Previously, she released the singles “I Feel It” and “Mystic Light,” which makes me want to listen to her third full-length album now. However, a bit more patience is needed because Down Rounder is set due out on February 17th via Second Prize Records. As the title implies, “Papa Took My Totems” is partially inspired by Cat Clydes Indigenous Métis heritage, in which she reflects on the ravaging effects of colonialism, our exploitation of the environment, and masculine-dominated society at large. The accompanying music video plays with some male mannerisms and brings the track beautifully to life. Asked about “Papa Took My Totems,” Cat says:
“There’s a lot of sacredness that’s being destroyed in the world, and that’s difficult to deal with sometimes. Totems, to me, feel like places and things that are important and real, to witness the destruction of things like that is devastating.”
