This was the second show by Blak Emoji, the new project by songwriter, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Kelsey Warren and I liked it as much as the first show they put on at Pianos earlier this year. Maybe I loved it a little more because this time Blak Emoji played at the renowned Knitting Factory for Northside Festival 2016 and our very first glamglare + Audiofemme showcase.

All bias aside, the musicians Kelsey had accompany him on stage his time around were killing it! It was just so much joy and fun to experience Max Naples (drums), Natalie Lowe (keys) and Chris Gaskall (bass, synths) playing their instruments and bringing Blak Emoji’s immediately alluring and infectious sound to life.

Blak Emoji are currently recording their first album, and this was a one-off opportunity to see them live before the record is finished. From what we can tell, the album will range from more industrial rock pieces, like Sapiosexual, to more soulful ones with variations in between. One thing is for sure though: this is going to an album to look forward to because it will be stunning!

For now, enjoy photos from Blak Emoji’s charismatic performance and stay tuned for more to come…
