SONG PICK: Sykes - We and Us
The firm piano, the dizzy, jazzy vibe, and the hard to pinpoint ultra-intriguing vocals made us love “We and Us” from the start. “We and Us” is the new single by Rotterdam-based singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Sykes. The song also marks the title track from Sykes’ upcoming EP “We and Us,” with a release date of February 10th, out via Dutch electronic label Fluid Funk. We learned that Sykes wrote the track “after a long conversation with a friend about religion, race and the systemic racism embedded as normal practice within our society.”
When asked about the essence of his new single, Sykes says:
It’s about the deep divisions in modern society. A lot of tensions between people of all kinds of beliefs and political affiliations were surfacing at the time I was writing the song. I really wanted to write something that could resonate with hope. We have to respect each other and listen to each other based on trusting our good intentions.
We subscribe to the above and are looking forward to listening to the entire EP because this a fantastic first taste! Listen to “We and Us”, our Song Pick of the Day:
