SONG PICK: Rituals of Mine – Come Around Me (Video)
Rituals of Mine is the musical project of Los Angeles-based songwriter and singer Terra Lopez. With her eclectic mix of downtempo, indie-pop, and R&B elements she puts herself firmly on the map and setting the bar high for her sophomore album “Hype Nostalgia”, out September 25th via Carpark Records. A first taste of this upcoming record provides “Come Around Me”, and we are already longing for more!
The track is as gorgeous as it is intense, with irresistible beats and Lopez’ mesmerizing vocals. The accompanying music video does the stunning track justice, capturing the different emotions with strong and moving visuals, and Lopez in the center of it all with a sincerity that transports itself out of the medium’s confinement.
Directed by Leo Pfeifer, Lopez says about the video:
“Our aim was to take themes from the record and incorporate them in various ways: the rain (representing loss/grief), the trophies room (representing the overachiever in me), the TV room (representing memory and nostalgia) and me in quarantine now (representing current day reality). For obvious reasons, nostalgia is the central theme of this record as I am writing from an era of pre-loss and pre-grief so we wanted to bring in some surreal elements into each setting to elevate the story and make it interesting.”
