SONG PICK: Neon Dreams - Walk Away
When I first came across “Walk Away”, the new single and video by alt-pop duo Neon Dreams, my heart did a little happy jump for excitement. So. Good. At that time, I was looking forward to seeing the Halifax-based band live in Austin next week. But, only a few hours after this feeling of joy came one of utter disappointment as SXSW got canceled, and consequently, I’m not traveling but stay put in New York. In such a trying time, we more than ever need videos like “Walk Away” with its playfulness, exuberance and joie de vivre.
When asked about their newest single, singer Frank Kadillac, who together with Adrian Morris forms Neon Dreams, answered:
“We’ve been reminiscing over late 90s/early 2000s lately, and I remember I was obsessing over the chords the day before I brought them into the session from this old Kid Cudi song I heard when I was a kid it was called ‘Up Up And Away. For some reason ‘Walk Away’ turned out to sound like an MGMT song when we dove into it with the drums, especially after my friend Nathan Ferraro started belting out that wild, anthemic melody…it was perfect.”
