SONG PICK: Kid Bloom - Sugarcoat
“Sugarcoat” exquisitely dances on the exciting edge between sadness and joy, a sonic combination that can only come from a warm and sunny place like Los Angeles. Californian indie rock band Kid Bloom deliver yet another fantastic song after their hit singles “Different State of Mind” and “Electric U”.
On “Sugarcoat” I get a very subtle 50s vibe with its crooner feel, but WAIT until you hear the guitar fully chiming in towards the end of the song: this is reminiscent of a famous British guitarist, the one who is sporting a science degree.
Vocalist Lennon Kloser provides the following background to their new single:
“Sugarcoat is very near and dear to my heart because it brings attention to the times I glaze over my problems with excuses. Its concept is melancholy, but you can’t help but feel happy when you hear it; like being at a relative’s wedding on acid.”
