SONG PICK: Halo Maud – Tu Sais Comme Je Suis
“Tu Sais Comme Je Suis” – you know how I am – is the final statement in an ending relationship, after everything else is said. Paris-based musician Halo Maud sees this moment in a metaphorical way:
This song is about the end of a love story, a kind of resigned assessment in slow motion of the state of the body and of a state of mind – “you know how I am” – there’s nothing we can do anymore, and your body begins to float, slowly escaping until disintegrating itself.
The song is an ethereal, weightless piece that lets you feel floating from beginning to the end. Halo Maud uses lyrics in both French and English in most of her songs to bring over different vibes. She explains:
When I sing in English, the words float away from me straight away. When I sing in French, I feel something different, something more immediate, and I think the audience do too.”
Her debut album “Je Suis Une Île” – I am an Island – is out on May 18 on Heavenly Records.
