Five Festival Questions for Josh Jacobson

Closing out the afternoon at the AudioFemme x glamglare showcase will New York-based singer/songwriter/producer Josh Jacobson who delights with his form of soulful, jazzed-up indie-electronic sound that let his bright vocals shine. We are psyched to not only welcome Josh to our line-up but that he also took the time to answer our five festival questions:

1 – Q: How would you describe your music/style in short? What can festival goers except from your show?
I describe my music as ‘future soul’. The live show is my own unique mix of live instrumentation and electronics, with a lot of energy and improvisation. I’m looking forward to this Northside show, there will be some amazing musicians joining me on stage and I’m trying out some new stuff in the set. Jazz fans and dance music heads will be equally stoked!

2 – Q: Which musical act are you most excited to see yourself at this year’s Northside Festival?
I’m really excited to see Dirty Projectors. They’re one of my favorite bands and I’ve only seen them live once before, at Bonnaroo a couple years back.

Q – 3: This being your first time performing at the festival, what would be the coolest thing you think could happen?
It’d be cool if Kamasi Washington shows up and joins my band on stage!

4 – Q: What is in store for you in the next six months?
The next few months are going to be real busy. I’m about to announce the launch of my own record label, Joshua Tree Records, and the rest of my First Light EP is coming out on Joshua Tree later this summer with a tour to follow. Also working on a bunch of exciting collaborations that you’ll be hearing about soon!

5 – Q: What’s the question you wish we would be asking?
I wish you’d ask about my favorite word — it’s komorebi, which in Japanese means “sunlight filtering through the leaves of trees”. I get a lot of inspiration every day in my studio from the way the light shines in through the oak trees outside my window.

Thanks so much for your answers Josh. We are looking forward to experiencing your music live tomorrow and after having seen Kamasi Washington perform yesterday, we also wish he’d join you on stage. Who knows, this is a festival and everything can happen…
