CATCH UP: Sexores – Historias de Frío

Historias de Frío by the Ecuadorian/Spanish duo Sexores came already out last year, but it is so good that we are introducing a new category here on glamglare: “Catch Up”, were we talk about albums that we fell in love with recently, but cannot longer be considered new releases.

In cable of Historias this is a miss that I could have easily avoided: Sexores showed up last fall on the SXSW lineup and made it immediately to our must-see list. Unfortunately they couldn’t make it to Austin, but we finally met them at Northside Festival last month.

The core of the band are Emilia Bahamonde (guitar, vocals) and David Yépez (drums) (on stage they were joined by a bassist from New York). Their music is a dreamy brand of shoegaze with Emilia’s vocals so low in the mix that it is difficult to make out if she sings Spanish or English. Her voice feels more like an instrument, a distant siren call that lures you into a strange dream world filled with wonderful sound waves that come from all directions.

Non untypically for this genre, the album’s 38 minutes melt almost into a single song. It’s hard to tell standout tracks, but if you only want to listen to only two, I recommend Below the Rainbow and Shinigami:

Listen to Historias de Frio on Apple Music or Spotify.
