Awesome and Diverse Performances at the 4Knots Festival 2015

These days there’s no shortage of cool music festivals in New York City, and 4Knots Festival presented by Village Voice, is no exception. For it’s 5th year, the festival changed locations and left it’s downtown spot at the South Street Seaport pier to spread out at Pier 84 in the Hudson River Park. Have the prior festivals been for free, this year’s asked for $25 for GA and $50 for VIP tickets – and totally “worth” it!

This being a gorgeous Summer day, we took it a bit slow, with enjoying breakfast outdoors, arriving at the festival area just in time to run into a few friends and then get treated to non-stop touring Happyness, a three piece from the UK. While we’ve missed Heaven, Surfbort, Heaters and Meatbodies but Happyness got us started just fine!

Next up were another trio with Screaming Females, a fierce powerhouse from New Brunswick, NJ. I was not prepared for this kind of high-energy show and Marissa Paternoster (vocals, guitar) left me breathless and wanting more – more of the bad-ass guitar garage rock.

There was certainly no time to slow down -enjoy a drink or the sun- since Twin Peaks took the stage. The five garage-rockers from Chicago made the stage their own and exuberated joy and fun!

Then it got quieter again with Mikal Cronin, after that Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks and closing the night were Super Furry Animals. Truth be told though, this festival had so much to offer with its great atmosphere right at the Hudson, the posh VIP boat, reasonably priced drinks and Summer sunshine in abundance (and totally for free!) that we took it more easy after the first three bands and simply had a good times, chatting with friends or -intermittently- with either Benji or Jonny of Happyness. And if their band name is any indication, this with a day filled with tons of fun and happiness!
