Ugo live at Spike Hill

There’s increasingly less time left to see and hear some great music on Bedford Avenue’s Spike Hill, yet luckily I cought a really cool act past Saturday: Ugo from Boston – a project fronted by Chris Lee. There were five people on stage: two singing and rapping vocalists, a drummer, a guitarist and a bass player. Together, they created pretty impressive melodic hip-hop which sounded quite refreshing and certainly highly appealing.

Having never heard of Ugo before, I now listened through all their recorded material and also found out that they have successfully concluded a kickstarter to get the recording of their first EP crowd-funded. Probably my favorite track is What Comes Around which is included here but check them all out.
Admittedly, while this is not my usual kind of prefered genre, the professional and fun live show immediately caught my attention and I highly enjoyed listening to their recorded material too. On top of it, Chris Lee could not have been any nicer or more charming in our little chat after their show. Here’s to playing in Brooklyn again soon – or see you in Austin #sxsw2015 maybe?
